A Downtown Salem Engagement Session

My couples seem to have some of the most romantic and sweet proposal stories and Lindsay and Michael are no exception. Both met in DC and began their life together in the Nation's capitol. So appropriately they spend much of their time working in, living in, and enjoying the city and the surrounding Virginian countryside. On a fall afternoon, Michael took Lindsay to a restaurant at Patowmack Farm for a short weekend escape in Northern Virginia. While seated at a gazebo, beneath the shadow of the mountains and overlooking the Potomac River, Michael knew it was the perfect moment to propose. And so on bended knee, three years to the week after he and Lindsay first met, Michael popped the question. Of course Lindsay said yes, and well the rest as they say is history!

This past weekend I met Lindsay and Michael in downtown Salem for their engagement session in this historic city. Next month they will wed at the Hawthorne Hotel and so we spent much of the time imagining just how wonderful the day will be. I just adore these two and I cannot wait to celebrate with them in November. But until now, enjoy this sweet duo and their beautiful fall engagement session in the Witch City!!Lindsay, you are beautiful!!Salem is the perfect location, so much history!!I couldn't get enough of Lindsay's coat, I'm a sucker for big, nautical details!!Work it guys!!Many of the buildings were closed due to the government shutdown, but that didn't stop us from taking advantage of the beautiful architecture!!How adorable are they?!These next sets are some of my favorite from the day, I loved how Lindsay's red dress popped against foliage.Love.Before a quick outfit change we found this little area which I think might have been someone's private garden. Hey we had to take advantage of the beautiful light ok?!While Lindsay and Michael changed into something more comfortable I photographed her beautiful ring.Michael, always making Lindsay smile.Fall comes and goes to quickly...How perfect is this little stoop?! It was like it was made for these two...Congrats on your engagement Lindsay and Michael, I had a blast hanging out with you!! I can't wait for next month!!

Matt & Christina Engaged

A Harvard Yard Engagement Session

Do you want to hear one of the most creative and adorable engagement proposals? I know you do!! I think Christina out did herself with this one. First, Christina proposed. Not being one to be defined by gender roles AND coupled with the fact that she just KNEW Matt was the one, she decided she would pop the question. (Matt felt the same and was going to propose but Christina beat him to the question;)).

Having both attended Harvard University the two spend a lot of time together in and around the campus. Matt studied biology and so Christina devised a plan that would incorporate the lab he spends most of his days in. After managing to convince Matt they NEEDED to head to the lab Christina created a diversion and slipped something under a microscope. When Matt returned she egged him on to look through the scope. There he discovered a laser engraved piece of glass that read "Will you marry me?". Of course Matt said yes and they spent the rest of the evening celebrating their new future together!!

I kind of feel like that needs to be incorporated into a Big Bang Theory episode or something!! How cute AND romantic!! Appropriately for their engagement session we explored the campus of Harvard University since it has such an incredible amount of meaning to the couple. Christina picked out some of her favorites spots and through the afternoon of gorgeous light I photographed this amazing couple!!

They'll be wed next spring and are busily planning and organizing all the details of the big day. But for one beautiful fall afternoon they got to escape from the work, school and wedding responsibilities and just focus one another. I simply adore these two and I am so excited to share their engagement session with you.

Meet Matt and Christina!We started the session on the steps of Widener Library in Harvard Yard. Does any one else feel like Elle Woods should be appearing at any moment?! :-PHow cute are they?!Matt and Christina needed little warming up, they simply just enjoyed spending time together in front of the camera!A favorite for sure!I couldn't get enough of that gorgeous fall light!!Christina introduced me to the Loeb House and I simply fell in love!! It was a gorgeous little corner of the University!!Lovely!!Another favorite for sure, somewhere need underclassmen housing!! Who wouldn't love living in one of those beautiful buildings?I love the way they love.After a quick outfit change we headed over to Memorial Hall a beautiful building on the other side of Harvard's campus.Though the sun now was direct and harsh I used it to our advantage and loved the result!!Of course I have to incorporate the first signs of fall!!Following our stop at the Divinity School, Christina introduced me to another Harvard hidden gem, the The Minda de GunzburgCenter for European Studies.I simply could not get enough of Christina's beautiful ring.Another favorite for sure!!We ended the session at Churn, because like me, Christina is an ice cream afficionado. And really is there anyway better than to end an afternoon with the one you love than with ice cream? Nope.

A Back Bay Engagement Session

I don't think there is anything a photographer likes to hear more than when their clients say, "We just love your work and trust you completely! Just tell us what you'd like us to do!" Well alright then!! And that's exactly what happened when I showed up to Basil and Kim's apartment to start their engagement session. Quite frankly I didn't have to give them much direction at all, as these two love birds we're just naturals in front of the camera. Their love for one another just oozes out and made it incredibly easy to spend the afternoon photographing them around their home in the Back Bay.

Basil and Kim met over drinks at the Lansdowne Pub several years ago and have built a life together in the Back Bay. Boston has played a large part in their relationship and so it was only fitting that had their engagement session in the city. We explored some of their favorite places and even used their adorable and charming apartment as a backdrop.

Blitheowld Mansion Engagement Session

Their engagement story is like something straight out of a Bachelor episode, something only tv magic could make up. But yet it wasn't, it was very much real and very much planned by Jon, Melissa's thoughtful fiance. During an annual trip to St. John's last year, Jon planned the ultimate surprise proposal for Melissa. Waking up early one morning Jon and Melissa sneaked away for a snorkel trip to a secluded island only to find that they had to swim to the beach. It was there after a lovely stroll through the sand that Jon got down on one knee and asked Melissa to marry him. A trip to the Virgin Islands, a surprise sailing excursion, a swim to a private island and one BEAUTIFUL engagement ring all make for an amazing and unforgettable proposal!! Reading their story just made me swoon (and then wish I was on a Caribbean beach sipping a cocktail;)).

This August I'll be joining these two for their nautical inspired wedding but first we had to have an engagement session!! I met up with Jon and Melissa at the beautiful grounds of Blithewold Mansion the and we explored the expansive and property together! Enjoy their garden inspired session!!

A MIT Cambridge Engagement

If there is one trait that I have noticed between all my Brides is that they LOVE to giggle. Good thing because I love to laugh too. And it certainly makes my job SO.MUCH.FUN when we get to enjoy our time together. So it didn't come as any surprise to me that Michael and Kristyn spent most of their engagement session giggling and laughing together. How adorable!!

These two met while undergrads at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (hello smarties!!), and they still work there today!! As we waited for Kristyn to join us, Michael told us a little bit about the history of MIT and the "hacks" students have played on campus, quite hilarious! Michael and Kristyn are proud of their alma mater and it certainly means something very special to them!! (I might be a little biased too, as it's my husband's alma mater :-P)

We spent the afternoon together enjoying the WARM WARM weather and exploring the LARGE and sprawling campus. After a quick outfit change the ring pops came out and if these two weren't having a good enough time already, it was like an all out giggle fest as I tried to pose them with their pops. I mean Michael proposed using a ring pop, we had to include them right?! ;)

A Boston Public Library Engagement Session

For part of their first date Mitch and Claudia escaped into the Boston Public Library to avoid the frigid Boston weather. Four years later here they were again where it all began (escaping the frigid Boston weather ;)). This time they were here to celebrate their engagement and upcoming wedding, what a difference four years make!!

I don't think there could be a more adorable couple. Claudia, whose smile could light up a room and Mitch, with a carefree take on life, compliment each other perfectly. I loved watching as they two melted into each other's arms and giggled as they rubbed their noses together. Suddenly the frigid Boston weather wasn't so frigid!

Brian & Fiona's Proposal

A Copley Square Proposal

Several weeks ago I got a surprise email from Brian telling me his big plans for proposing to his girlfriend Fiona! And I practically squealed as I wrote back to Brian telling him how excited I was! (I think I might have squealed on the phone too ;)). He couldn't wait to pop the question and he wanted to make sure that the moment (well really the moments following) were documented for them to remember for years to come. After a few location changes, Brian finally settled on the Skywalk at the top of the Prudential Tower in downtown Boston as the spot where he would pop the question.

My trusty assistant (aka Hubby!) and I waited patiently in the food court below until we got the text that the coast was clear (and that she said YES!). Once my phone rang we hurried up to the 50th floor where we met Brian and awe struck Fiona as they basked in their just engaged glow!! Immediately I was taken back to the night that Dave proposed to me! There is just something so incredibly magical about your engagement and I loved being able to watch Brian and Fiona experience it as well!!

Congratulations Brian and Fiona, I couldn't be MORE excited for the two of you! Enjoy every minute of this planning/engagement/staring-at-your-ring-ten-times-a-day period of life!! I truly is something completely special!! Thank you so much for asking me to be a part, it was an honor!! Enjoy!Since I wasn't there for the actual proposal we decided to reenact the event:).Brian proposed at the Skywalk on top of the Prudential Towers. It has amazing views of the entire city!After we warmed up a bit inside I took these two love birds for a walk around Copley Square including a stop at the Boston Public Library, one of my favorite spots in town. Brian was pretty excited, can't you tell?!A favorite from the night for sure!Despite the frigid temperatures these two were the best!! How adorable are they?!As this all took place later in the evening, I relied heavily on my flash and off camera lighting. And while this is a big departure from my normal style of natural light shooting, I'm pretty excited with the results! (For the photographers, I used two 580ex II flashes, two Pocket Wizard transceivers, a Lasolite softbox on a monopod and a Husband to carry it all!)

Big Cities, Open Fields and Stylish Couples

Is it REALLY time for the Best Of posts?! Is 2012 really almost over?! This year has FLOWN by and brought so many new changes not only to the business but to my personal life as well! I will certainly look back on 2012 with a smile!

I've had the joy of being able to photograph some amazing couples this past year, many who I know call dear friends. This job that I do affords me an opportunity to have an intimate glimpse in to the relationships in my couples' lives. I'm so grateful for those who have invited me in this past year and allowed me to photograph their love. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

As I was going through, reflecting on all that 2012 was, I noticed a few trends. My couples LOVE the city and boy do they have STYLE! A photographer's dream come true! I absolutely adore shooting in urban environments and mhmm, do I love a put together couple! Your attention to detail and fashion sense was pretty fun to document! I've even got to give a special shout out to the guys (or the ladies who dressed them) for being equally as stylish as their ladies. Props to you all!

A Cozy Home Engagement

I knew right away that I'd hit it off wonderfully with this sweet couple! I mean Mike's a fellow ginger, what's not to love?! AND they happen to live in one of my favorite cities, Chicgao AND they still root for the Red Sox! Yup, love these two!

I met Samantha and Michael at Michael's family home near Boston. Samantha just loves the charm of this VERY old but tastefuly re-done farm house. And since it was a chilly afternoon we spent much of our time together indoors, bravely venturing outside for a few images later in the day. Every nook and cranny of this house was filled with something interesting to look at, it was hard to stay focused!! But honestly, Mike and Sam are just too adorable for words, who wouldn't want to take their picture?!

Eddie & Sarah Engaged

A North End and Harborside Engagement Session

How cute are these two?! I just adore Sarah and Eddie, two quiet souls who love deeply. And I thought I couldn't love them more until Eddie revealed, that he was in fact a child model. I was convinced he was joking, but about half way into our session together, I realized he was SERIOUS! Yes, folks, Eddie was a child model, a child model who won awards and competitions! And sadly, a child model whose career was cut short when he couldn't read the script of a commercial he was auditioning for. What talent, wasted ;)!

So of course I fully expected Eddie and Sarah to then "bring it" during our time together and BRING IT they did! I met up with Sarah and Eddie in the historic Seaport District for their engagement session. Eddie proposed to Sarah in Boston and they both work in the city, commuting together every day (how adorable!). So it was only fitting that Boston was the backdrop for their engagement.

We spent the afternoon wandering the city, posing every so adorably in little areas here and there and finished up the evening indulging in some yummy cannolis from Modern Pastry. A former child model, an adorable couple and sweet treats all add up to one fabulous engagement session. Enjoy!

A North End Engagement Session

Oh Gaya and Ani. How do I describe these two? Sweet, kind, genuine, is just the beginning. Gaya has a smile that can light up a room and Ani has a quite gentleness about him. Together, they fit perfectly, complimenting each others character and personality. A match made in Boston.

Ani and Gaya love the city, and so we chose the North End and Carson Beach for their engagement session. We wandered the crowded alleys and streets of the North End as parades, people and the smell of delicious food floated by. And enjoyed sunset with a glass of wine and the salty air across town. I can't imagine a more perfect way to spend a summer evening!

Jon & Emma's Copley Square Engagement

Without much expectation Jon and Emma looked to me for guidance when it came to the specific locations for their Boston engagement session. "Show us your Boston," they told me. A photographer's dream come true, I thought! Immediately I got to work thinking of all the wonderful and fabulous locations that I would show them. My secret little spots that I loved. I would show them my Boston. But as the weekend neared the weather took a turn for the worst. Because Emma and Jon were visiting for just a few short days there was no time to reschedule. We would have to make due. Suddenly my grand ideas and secret spots flew out the window. It would turn out to be an afternoon of extremes and nothing that I expected!

First we battled the heat. The sun was BRIGHT and the humidity was HIGH. We tried to find shade the best we could and made the best of what the weather dealt us. Though we were dying in the oppressive heat, secretly I was overjoyed it wasn't raining. I showed Emma and Jon around Copley Square and Trinity Church in all it's touristy glory. And despite having been to this area of the city a hundred times over, we made it our own that afternoon.

With an outfit change I brought my sweaty but amazing couple to the Boston Public Library. A hidden gem I called it, lauding it's marble staircase, beautiful courtyard and quaint library. I couldn't wait to show Emma and Jon one of my favorite spots in Boston. But as they were quickly changing in the bathroom my worst fears came to life. An unruly security guard began yelling for everyone to get out, the library was closing. This can't be happening I thought. I racked my brain thinking of some place that would be just as wonderful as the Library trying to get Emma and Jon away from the unruly security guard as quickly as possible. Suddenly my Boston wasn't looking so great.

As we (and many others) were hurried out of the library we were met with a gruesome looking sky. In a matter of minutes the weather had turned from hot and humid to dark and stormy. Thunder and lightning filled the sky and we RAN for cover. Only to find ourselves, and many others, seeking shelter in the beautiful, but now crowded, Fairmont Copley. We snuck around for a few photos and then decided to make the rainy trek back to the parking garage.

A church, a closed library, a hotel and a parking garage. That is my Boston. And while the conditions weren't perfect, we made it work. Emma and Jon rolled with the punches (and the weather) and made even a dimly lit, gloomy parking garage look fabulous. I can't thank you both enough for trusting in me and being so willing to go where I suggested, even if it seemed crazy. And the weather? Well this is New England after-all, it does what it wants. We take what it gives us and make it fabulous!

Wedding Tresses did an amazing job with Emma's hair and makeup. She looked flawless! Emma decided to have her wedding hair and makeup trial coincide with her engagement session. A great way to not only look amazing for your session but also get in a trial run for the wedding day!

Jason & Amanda's Downtown Newburyport Engagement

Amanda and Jason's engagement session was hot. I mean we're talking sweating bullets kind of hot. How we managed to make it through, well that just goes to show you how amazing my couples are. And the fact that they didn't run screaming from my frizzed-out-drenched-in sweat-appearance is beyond me. People, it got to the point that I was SO hot I couldn't even form coherent sentences. Thank goodness for amazing people like Amanda and Jason! I knew from the minute we first Skyped that we could get along famously. Amanda with her big smile and warm personality and Jason with his awesome sense of humor were a match made in heaven. And our time together only confirmed to me just how great these two are. Like the time Jason joked that in fact he was going to open his OWN coffee shop and name it Circlebucks and make millions. And with that I just about died. I love people who live life with a sense of whimsy and humor. And Amanda and Jason do just that.

Jason & Amanda Engaged

A Newburyport Engagement Session

I knew from the minute we first Skyped that we could get along famously. Amanda with her big smile and warm personality and Jason with his awesome sense of humor were a match made in heaven. And our time together only confirmed to me just how great these two are. Like the time Jason joked that in fact he was going to open his OWN coffee shop and name it Circlebucks and make millions. And with that I just about died. I love people who live life with a sense of whimsy and humor. And Amanda and Jason do just that.

Ocean House Rhode Island Engagement Photos

Have you ever met people that just immediately put you at ease? People who exude warmth and charm? That's Fred and Ashley. The first time we met was at their engagement session at the Ocean House where they will be married next year. Honestly, whenever I meet people for the first time I'm always a bit nervous. But with a hug and kiss on the cheek Ashley and Fred welcomed me with open arms and put my nervousness to rest. That's just Fred and Ash, sharing their warmth and kindness with those around them. They are a wonderful couple, people who compliment one another perfectly. Fred, who makes Ashley shyly giggle under breath and Ashley who makes Fred's heart melt. It was a joy to watch these two just love each other.

We spent a fun afternoon walking the property at Ocean House taking in the sweeping ocean views and the classic New England charm. Fred and Ashley, thank you for being the perfect pair and for sharing your warmth and love with those around you!

Fred was a constant surprise, like the time he suggested to climb up on the life guard tower. Turned out pretty awesome!

Rob and Rachel's Fort Point Channel Engagement

Rob and Rachel LOVE the city. More specifically they love BOSTON. It is after all where they met, fell in love and are beginning their life together. Meeting through a mutual friend in the city, Rob and Rachel began dating right away and have been together ever since. And Boston has continued to be an important part to their relationship. It is amazing how a place can play such a huge role in the relationships and memories we form!

Last week I met these two urbanites in South Boston and spent the afternoon walking the neighborhood that they call home. All with the stunning Boston skyline as our backdrop! In fact they'll be getting married in South Boston in the fall! It was exciting envisioning their day was we explored this part of the city. I can't wait for September Rob and Rachel! Enjoy!

Patrick & Elizabeth's Engagement at Wagon Hill Farm in Durham New Hampshire

Is there anything more adorable than a love story that begins in kindergarten?! I think not! Fondly Liz and Pat described that, "They got along OK. They carpooled, shared best friends and played tag. Patrick had Cooties and Liz was a trouble maker. When kindergarten ended they split paths. Liz pursued her dream of becoming the pink power ranger and Patrick expanded his parking lot soccer skills to the field." Fast forward to adulthood and Liz and Pat are planning a wedding and purchasing their first home! The story of their love is one of distance, separation, and lengthy phone bills. But no matter how far apart their lives seemed to take them, Liz and Pat always found their way back to each other. Clearly a sign that no matter what, it was just meant to be!

Liz and Pat will be married in an outdoor ceremony at Curtis Farm in July. Wagon Hill Farm in New Hampshire was of course perfect backdrop for their engagement session, a wonderful compliment for their rustic inspired wedding! And despite the ticks and the cool breeze we managed to have a beautiful afternoon together! I know I've said it before, but at the risk of sounding cliche, I truly love each of the unique couples I work with! I work with the best people, who are truly beautiful on the inside and out. I'm so grateful that what I do places me in the paths of these special people and even more grateful that I get to witness one of the most important days of their lives. Liz and Pat are no exception to this. They are amazingly genuine people who I now call friends! Liz and Pat, thank you for giving me a peak inside your lives! Can't wait for July!
