A while back I wrote about all the goodies in my camera bag. I'm super excited to to add my assortment of equipment, the 100mm Macro 2.8L!!
This baby is amazing! I am so excited to start using this for my 2011 weddings. Here are some test images I shot of some jewelry I had around the house:
It's pretty amazing how close you can get with this lens. Not only that, but this thing is TACK sharp when it locks in, just be careful of the dreaded camera shake (as I found out the hard way) Thank goodness for test shots! To avoid this, I tried to balance my elbow on the surface I was shooting (which was a table) to help steady myself and the camera. Since I was shooting indoors, on an afternoon in February, I wasn't dealing with much light and so camera shake was more of an issue. Another observation: sometimes, depending on how close you are, the lens can have trouble getting to the focus point quickly. Just be patient and after a few tries it will lock in. And when it does, it's beauty.
The depth of field (because you can get to close to your subject) is budda (butter:)). I drool over the possibilities with this lens! This lens is great for shooting details like, jewelry, table settings and flowers. Again, the bokeh is to die for, the focusing is tack sharp and it creates intimate, detailed images. And, the best part, you don't have to break the bank to own this lens. It lands right in the middle of price points for L series lenses. Happy Shooting!
