In high school I played clarinet. In band. Yes, I was a band geek, but don't worry I didn't go to band camp! I loved music and it was such an important part of my life from elementary school through college. When I decided to go to Northeastern, I made sure to be a part of the music program there, because I couldn't fathom the idea of not playing anymore. And so I joined the band and was well on my way to continuing my band geek streak in college.
I remember one day, Northeastern and Harvard decided to have a joint concert of sorts. We combined forces to put on a concert of Wagner I believe. Now, the Harvard kids were talented. And dedicated. And AMAZING musicians. Northeastern, well, not so much. I sat next to one student, and I was in awe of how talented he was. I was good, but he was great. Music clearly came quickly and easily to him and I felt honored to be playing next to him!
If you had told me that years later I would photographing that same student's wedding, I would have probably laughed at you. But as fate would have it, that talented musician, Damian, would later go on to date my good friend Jackie. And they would later ask me to photograph their wedding. It's such a small world.
When it came time for their engagement session, Jackie was nervous. They're not the posing, make out in front of the camera type people, she said. But what she didn't take into consideration is that their genuine love for each other would shine through their images. Jackie and Damian are the type of people that love to have fun with each other. Whether its on the soccer field or at their home, these two make each other laugh. These two truly enjoy doing life together. And those are the things that make an image come alive.
Jackie and Damian, I'm so excited I got to spend this past Saturday wandering the streets of New Haven with you! I'm excited for your wedding this September! Thanks for making my job easy and FUN!
