2 Years Later
Yes yes, I know. I blog, photograph, Instagram, Facebook and Tweet about my dog Maya WAY too much. But truly can you blame me? Is she not the cutest white haired, patch eyed mutt you've ever seen?! And today marks the two year anniversary since we brought this cute but high maintenance stress ball home with us.
I wrote about it in a blog post here two years ago, but I wasn't a dog person before this little one stole my heart. I had never owned a dog and the dogs that I had been around were usually very aggressive and intimidating. So when my birthday rolled around and Dave surprised me with a trip to the dog shelter I was excited but anxious. (Side tangent: If you are looking to adopt a dog or cat please check out the Northeast Animal Shelter! They do amazing work and have a great staff, plus lots of adorable fluff balls to take home!)
What were we going to do with a puppy? How was I going to handle the disturbances, the messes, the torn apart rugs and shoes and clothing and pillows?! But as soon as that little fluff ball rubbed cautiously against my leg while we sat with her at the shelter I knew it was all over. And quite frankly we've been joined at the hip ever since.
Bringing Maya (or Maya Boo, or Boo Boo as we affectionately call her) home has been one of the best decisions we have made as a couple! She has brought so much joy into our life I sometimes laugh at thinking about how a DOG could do that. (And yes I know, wait until I have a kid;)!). Anyways I just love this little nugget.
She still has a way to go to shake her shelter dog reflexes. She barks at anything and anyone that walks up to our front door, she is terrified of Dave and she's extremely skiddish, definitely a result of some sort of abuse. But we knew that if we didn't take her home WHO would?? And these past two years have seen SO much growth not just in her size but in her personality as well!
So in honor of Maya's two lovely years with us I wanted to walk down memory lane. Yep, you can click away now if you want, because I'm going to post pictures of my dog. My sweet, adorable, cuddly, cute dog....
This is us taking her home!! I can't believe I used to be able to hold her like that!!A few days later she cautiously checked out her crate. Then she cautiously ventured out onto the couch. And she hasn't left since!I look at the picture on the right and I just can't believe how teeny tiny she was!! Thank goodness her ears are still flip floppy like that!Six months later she was full grown:(On the two year anniversary of my blog she helped me celebrate! And she helped me write a blog post once ;)We've tried some family outtings but she doesn't do too well in crowded places...She's always my stand in when I do my self portraits, clearly I'm boring her!She LOVES the summer, just like her Mamma! She also likes to sing along to The Voice and celebrate the Fourth of July! She also loves the freedom at Dave's family farm in New Hampshire! So much to see and explore! She hates Halloween. But LOVES the Christmas Tree Farm!! And of course all the treats she gets at Christmas! But mostly she loves to chase sticks in the snow in the back yard!As I write this post Maya is sitting at my feet, hoping a piece of my bagel will find it's way to the floor. Dave and I joke that she's my office mascot, boss, employee and work colleauge! And it's true. She's my loyal companion and I'm so very grateful to have her in our life! Love you Maya Boo!
