Happy Anniversary
I've had the immense pleasure to not only call Jon and Diana past clients but now also count them as friends. It's been a joy to be a part of their journey to marriage and now they've just celebrated their first wedding anniversary!! We first met almost two years ago to talk about their upcoming wedding. Since then I've watched as they finished schooling, moved, accepted new jobs, wed. And now I am overjoyed to share with you their First Anniversary post. These two have been through a lot in their first year, but what is incredibly clear is that these last twelve months have only strengthened their love and drawn them closer together. Read what they've learned about marriage, each other and working together over this past year below!!
D -- Happy anniversary! I simply cannot believe that it has been a year since your wedding!! Has time flown by for you too?
J&D -- Absolutely! It's strange to think about, but somehow it feels like we've been married forever and like we just walked down the aisle yesterday.D -- What is your favorite memory from your wedding day?
J&D -- We had so many incredible moments throughout the day, it's so hard to pick just one. One that stands out, though, was a moment we had to ourselves. After the night was over and everyone was on their way home, we stayed for just a few more minutes in the reception hall, talking about how wonderful the day had been and just taking a few minutes to appreciate how lucky we were. Jokingly, we decided to slow dance without any music and take a few moments to appreciate the day. Our incredible DJ, Matt Majikas, took the opportunity to put on one last song for us, using just his smartphone as he had just about finished packing up his equipment. So we danced to "Can't Help Falling in Love with You" by Ingrid Michaelson. It's a song we'd talked about before the wedding, but never really spent much time listening to. So there we were, empty wedding hall, dancing with just each other, with this beautiful song in the background, thinking about how incredibly fortunate we are to have each other and the rest of our lives together. The weight and joy of the whole day hit us both at once, bringing us both to tears. While there was so much from that day to enjoy and be happy about, it's this one moment that stands out most.D -- What has been the best thing that has happened to you as a couple since your wedding last year?
J&D -- We've had an unbelievable year filled with so many wonderful things. To pick just one is a challenge, but, if we had to, we'd probably say Jon graduating with his doctorate. With the stress and demands of a difficult academic program behind us, we've had much more time to enjoy each other and grow as a couple. D -- What have you learned about each other over this past year?
J&D -- More than anything, we've learned how to roll with the punches this year. There have been a lot of challenges that have come up and that are outside of our control, and we've learned that we can be each other's greatest source of strength in hard times.D -- Traveled anywhere fun?
J&D -- We've taken a bunch of small trips this year - Saratoga Springs, Martha's Vineyard, Cape Cod, Lakes Region in New Hampshire - but, we're very much looking forward to our upcoming trip to Europe this Fall.D -- Any tips you can offer newlyweds for their first year of marriage?
J&D -- We'd hate to pretend we're experts, but there are a few things we've learned this year. The most important is to always remember that you're teammates, and can always turn to each other for help. This can be hard to remember during stressful times, and definitely takes practice. But, when we've come up against a challenge, we've found the best (and sometimes, the only) way we get through it is together!
