When Dave and I first met I only knew him as the guy from New Hampshire. A rugged guy who liked to wear socks with his Birkenstocks. YES, people, socks with his sandals. I was the girl from Massachusetts who lived in the city and hated all things that crawled, inched or squirmed. (Yep, I'm a city girl through and through) Dave loved nature, I ran screaming from it. Dave loved the great outdoors, I love the outdoors when it included indoor plumbing, a pool and some fruity drinks. We were and still are different as night and day but there was just something about this boy from New Hampshire that I couldn't shake, and well, the rest is history;)!
Part of Dave's childhood in New Hampshire included many days, nights and weeks playing and working on the family farm, Vickery Orchards. Dave loves to regale tails of his time on the farm, it's one of his favorite childhood memories. It's where his love for all things John Deere began, it's where he learned the value of hard, physical work, it's where he made memories with his sister and cousins. It's a huge part of what makes Dave who he is today. We don't get up there nearly enough but on Sunday we made sure we stopped by.
Dave's aunt and uncle along with his grandmother still live on the farm and run it throughout the year. Jonathan loved seeing his relatives and getting some cuddles with Grammie. Afterwards we spent some time wandering the farm while Dave showed Jonathan all the places he would work and explore as a little kid. It really warmed my heart to see Dave light up, especially when showing Jonathan the tractor he used to ride. (Guys, who would've thought I'd marry someone who knows how to operate a TRACTOR?!)
Of course I brought my camera along so check out all the "fun" this city girl had on the farm. And if you're ever in the Rochester, New Hampshire area check out Vickery Orchards!! They make amazing cider and sell farm raised products like eggs and produce too!!Right before Dave's family was about to leave for the afternoon, Grammie's dog Willow ran off. I fully blame our mischievous dog Maya. After five minutes or so I saw Dave walking around the bend with Willow in his arms and Maya running full speed towards me. Mischievous I tell you!Jonathan loved exploring!!Maya liked to scare the chickens, I'm surprised they didn't pop our their eggs right on the spot, HA!That's Dave's Grampie on the right, check out that retro sweater!!A stare down with the cow, it had it out for me as you'll see...Love:)!!See! It tried to eat me...just kidding. What a beautiful day at the farm!!
