A few weeks ago I shared that start of a new series on the blog called North Shore Doings. Having now returned to my childhood home just north of Boston I find myself seeking all sorts of opportunities for new adventures (in a very familiar place) with my family!! Our first trip was to a bird sanctuary, then Dave and I took a kayak down the Ipswich River and just this past weekend, from the recommendation of my intern and friend Amy, we took a short drive to Smolak Farms.
It was an absolutely BEAUTIFUL summer day with clear blue skies and a glorious bright sun. Usually Smolak Farms is bustling during the fall when people come in droves to pick apples and find the perfect pumpkin. But even this past weekend there was a buzz of activity with wagon rides, ice cream and an abundant amount of things to see and do. It truly is a family destination and Jonathan loved having some open space to run around:)!
One of the things I absolutely love MOST about New England is the rich history that is found here. And I know that I probably sound cheesy but it's true. Everywhere you turn there is a story and history behind things like a building, a stone wall, a river, an estate, often lovingly maintained for hundreds of years! I love being able to share that with Jonathan and to watch him experience these things anew. I think as a kid I took it all for granted, but now as an adult I realize just know how special this corner of the world is! That's why I started this blog series and I hope that you'll come with me on our family's adventures right here in our own backyard. Where should we go next?:)
If you're in the area definitely check out Smolak Farms, especially if you have kids. There's lots of things to do see and touch, a kid's dream! Enjoy!
