The Heirloom Album

I'm delighted to announce new offerings for the Deborah Zoe Photography Collection in 2016!! As you know I'm passionate about collaborating with my couples create tangible heirlooms following the wedding. Your images are not created to live on a computer but to be printed and enjoyed in your home, shared with those that you love.

Over the past year I have been searching for album offerings that would be a compliment to the albums I currently offer. I wanted something that had a touch of traditional charm but kept with modern times. And most importantly I wanted to find an heirloom offering that was made of hand crafted artisanal quality. These albums are created to become family heirlooms, shared and passed down to the generations to come. Knowing that a couple will share their album with their grandchildren one day and having that album become a part of a family's history is something I am incredibly passoinate about!!

It is with such joy that I introduce the Heirloom Album, Heirloom Folio & Signature album!! Over the coming weeks I will be showing you an in depth look at each of these albums, sharing how they are uniquely special and why they would be the perfect compliment for your wedding images!! Family Portraits in the Heart of the Berkshires

Gosh I couldn't love these three more!! Over the weekend Dave and I had the joy of hanging out with some of our dearest friends in a cabin in the Berkshires. It was entirely relaxing (well as relaxing as vacationing with a toddler can be) and we spent some great moments laughing too much, exploring nature trails that led to no where and exploring downtown Barrington. At the end of the weekend I snuck our friends away for a mini portrait session.

It's hard to believe that Miss Emmeline is over six months old. You may remember this trio from their maternity session in Brooklyn last fall and their amazingly beautiful floral inspired newborn session this winter. Seeing Miss Emmeline this past weekend made it much more real that she is growing up!! I'm so proud of Courtney & Dave, how they have embraced parenthood and love on this sweet baby girl. Watching your friends become parents and sharing that journey with them is such a joy!!

Celebrating A Legacy

This past weekend I had the pleasure of traveling to New Hampshire to visit with dear friends, Dave & Anna, who were ending their month long vacation in the States. Living aborad means that they have little opportunity to see their family and friends who live in the States, so when they have the chance to make it happen, it's a big deal. To make it even more interesting, Anna is one of 9 siblings with 26 immediate family members. Getting everyone together in the same state at the same time? A VERY BIG DEAL.

I was honored to be asked to photograph this amazing family and celebrate the legacy that Anna's parents have created together. It can be easy to overlook the impact just one couple can have in the world, but not with this family. Anna's parents started with just two and have multiplied to 26. Their roots have crossed cultures, barriers and challenges. Their love has multipied in the most beautiful of ways.

Bev & Auke are one of the sweet couples who are a part of this family's legacy. Newly engaged, (Auke is from the Netherlands and was visiting during this epic family portrait get together!) we snuck them away for a mini engagement session. Nothing says New Hampshire more than some beautiful golden light dappled through the forest trees. Oh, you know I was in photographer heaven!! And c'mon, how adorable are these two?!

Thank you to this amazing family for inviting us in and allowing us to be witness to this incredible legacy. Here's to you!!

You may remember Yunji & Isaac from their darling wedding this past spring at the Topsfield Commons. Recently we finished their design and this gorgeous album now lives at their home, a perfect way to share their beautiful day with loved ones!!

Yunji & Isaac chose the Signature Album for their book, a 10x10 hand crafted album featuring a leather or linen cover. Yunji & Isaac especially loved the look of leather for their album. Happy Anniversary To Us!!

9 Years of (Mostly) Married Bliss

I can hardly believe that I am typing that today we celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary. It seems like yesterday and an enternity all the same, that we were standing in front of our family and friends, sharing our vows and being connected by a string of spit after our first kiss. (That's a VERY true story, captured by the video in the balcony... :-0).

9 years of marriage. Sometimes I feel like that means we should be experts at this marriage thing. After all, we've had almost a decade of experience of what it looks like to be a Husband and Wife. While we are FAR from experts, we have grown tremendously in this wild ride called marriage. Today Dave surprised me with 9 pages of photos from our last 9 years together. I overheard him telling our son that Mommy & Daddy have shared much together these last 9 years and it's entirely true.

Recently I stumbled upon this blog post and I couldn't agree more with every word. Brooke writes :

"I was writing about love the other day, how it changes over time. How you think it’s supposed to be one thing, and then you think it fails you because it’s something else. Love is funny that way, it can be so fluid, because suddenly it will flourish and becomes the fulfillment of everything, the completion, the water that blurs the paint between the two and makes it a masterpiece."

What a beautiful description of marriage, a watercolor masterpiece, the blending of two separate lives into one. Our paint strokes don't always blend together, our masterpiece is still a work in progress. But everyday another stroke comes together and completes another part of our painting. When we step back to admire our work it's hard not to be impressed at just how far we've come while also being humbled by how far we have to go. There is beauty in the process. Often this is where the art truly lives, not in the completion of the painting but in the journey to uncover it.

Happy Anniversary Babe, as our dear friends say every year for their anniversary, "I'm so glad I hitched my wagon to yours!"

Red Lion Inn Wedding | Emily & Dan

The sea plays an important part in Emily & Dan's relationship so fittingly it was a big part of their wedding day! Married in the coastal town of Cohasset, Emily and Dan filled their day with preppy and nautical details creating a timeless feel to every part of their wedding. Oh and did I mention that they wed on the Fourth of July?! It was pure celebration all throughout the day!!

Emily and Dan chose the Red Lion Inn for the location of their celebration, a historic building and inn, in the heart of Cohasset. The day was filled with perfectly tailored details and meaningful touches that honored Emily & Dan's loved ones. The couple was celebrated throughout the day, whether it was friendly groomsmen banter, the proud smile of Emily's grandfather or the heartfelt toasts, it is clear that Emily & Dan are deeply admired and loved.

Emily & Dan, it was a joy to photograph your wedding day. To see the smiles on your faces and the happiness your experienced together, made our hearts swell. I hope these images bring you back to that happiness and the memories you created together every time you look at them. Enjoy!!

Emily spent a lot of time personalizing her wedding day details, like this adorable Welcome Tote for her guests!

Emily's Amsale gown was a stunner...down to the delicate lace detailing beneath the tulle skirt

Emily's Mom & Sister helped her put on the finishing touches.

Emily surrounded herself with a fabulous group of ladies who shared in smiles and laughs all day!

Beach Plum Floral created the most stunning and colorful blooms for Emily and her attendants. I loved how perfectly they matched with the adorable Coren Moore bridesmaid dresses.

Emily's Bridesmaids wore adorable Coren Moore cocktail dresses from Flair Bridesmaid adding the perfect amount of prep to Emily's nautical theming.

Not to be out done by the ladies, Dan and his Groomsmen cleaned up quite well, dressed in navy Tommy Hilfiger suits and ties from Vineyard Vines.

Emily's adorable Grandfather beamed with pride as he walked her down the aisle.

A Haven Country Club Wedding

Lauren & Chris are the type of people you immediately want to be your friend. Whether you are meeting them for the first time or have known them forever, Lauren & Chris treat everyone they encourter with love, big bear hugs and air kisses. Their love for life, their families and each other is infectious and you can't help but to want to be in their pressence. Ties run deep with Lauren & Chris, and the support they felt on their wedding day was overwhelming, a beautiful testament to the lovely people they are.

Lauren & Chris had a true celebration this past weekend at the Haven Country Club. When getting ready at her home Lauren popped a bottle of bubbly and filled everyone's glasses. When she asked her Dad if he'd like a glass, he let out an exuberant "Yes!" That's just the type of people they are, embracing and celebrating the important things in life with vigor and enthusiasm, what a joy to be around!

Lauren and Chris, thank you for welcoming us in to your beautiful day with open arms!! Your zest for life, love and each other is inspiring...I hope your images capture a piece of that vivacity and remind you just how much you are loved, by each other and by those that support you! Lauren incorporated pieces of lace from her mother's wedding dress into her bouquet, I loved how it was wrapped around the base of the blooms.

Rediscovering My Inspiration

My Photography Heroes

Recently I was scrolling through my Pinterest boards and stumbled on an older board I had created years ago titled : Photography Inspiration. Within I had pinned images from Vogue, film and other sources. I had also pinned images from some of my photography heroes. I sat engrossed in this board and the images it held for hours, remembering the feelings these images and their creators had stirred up in me from a very young age.

For almost as long as I can remember I wanted to be a photographer. I loved a good story and I loved how photography could be used as a powerful tool in story telling. As a wedding photographer it can be so EASY to simply look to the wedding industry. Where are the trends, what are other photographers doing, what should I be photographing, often forgetting there is a world completely outside of the wedding photography industry where people are changing the world through the images they create. As a photographer it is vital to inner creative to see the images of photographers who are pushing, stretching and changing the world through their craft. Taking that back to my wedding work, telling a beautiful story and hopefully pushing, stretching and changing the world through my lens.

I'm not sure any of these photographers ever photographed a wedding (maybe they did!) But what I do know is that they changed the course of my life. They unknowingly have stretched me in ways I could never have imagined. These are the photographers who have inspired me daily and who, through their powerful bodies of work, keep me ever striving to tell a powerful story through photographs.

Dorothea Lange

As a young girl, as young as 8 or 9, I remember seeing the works of Dorothea Lange and being transfixed. She was able to depict an entire epidemic in her Migrant Mother portrait and through a singular frame, helped to change the course of life for thousands. There are several other frames that Lange took of this iconic Migrant Mother and yet only a single frame was selected, becoming her iconic work. Just a powerful example of how one image can encompass all.

Mary Ellen Mark

By the time I was in middle school, through the encouragement of my parents I signed up for a photography class. During this class we took a field trip to view an exhibition of Mary Ellen Mark. It was an image from her Indian Circus, though I can't remember which one, that changed my life forever. This trip and Mark's work, soldified in my being the importance of photography as a tool to document stories while honoring the lives of others through my camera. It was a fundemental moment in my life. While my work is nothing like Mark's, her influence in how and why I became a photographer was paramount.

Richard Avedon

The work of Richard Avedon was first presented to me during my early days of college. As an art major I was lucky to attend university directly across the street from one of the best art museums in the world, the Museum of Fine Art. On a daily basis I could stroll the halls of this historic museum free of charge. Vincent Van Gogh was regular stop on my visits, but there were others who sparked my inner creative, one being fashion photographer Richard Avedon. I've always had a love for the iconic portrait, and Avedon is known for his creative and sometimes outrageous portraits of celebrities, models and every day people alike. His work challenges me, makes me feel uneasy and inspires me to push my craft further, always.

James Nachtwey

James Nachtwey is my favorite photographer. To this day I cannot look at his images for less than several minutes, often becoming entranced in the subjects and stories told within a singular frame. I remember being introduced to Nachtwey's body of work during a VII presentation while at college. It was his body of work that solidified my desire to become a news photographer and tell stories with my camera. And while my life has taken a much different turn photographically, his imagery still holds this truth for me : photography is vital. photography is important. photography can change the world. I will forever be grateful to Nachtwey for using his gifts as a photographer to share the stories of others, for helping to shape my world perspective and to remind me to always honor those who are placed in front of my camera.

It might sound like much of who I am as a photographer was shaped by my education and it was. But I don't believe that you need to be trained as a photographer to understand the importance of inspiration in your own work. It is so easy as a business owners to be swept up in running a business that we can often forget that taking time to be inspired in our own photographic work is equally as important. It can be as simple as starting a board on Pinterest, cutting out pictures from a magazine or heading to your local Barnes & Noble and browsing through the art books. Taking the time to be inspired by the work of others, outside of the wedding world, is paramount in stretching and challenging ourselves in our craft.

A Wequassett Golf & Resort Club Wedding

As part of their toast to the Bride & Groom, Sarah's bridesmaids Amanda & Katie, decided to share with the newlywed couple advice about marriage. But being newly married themselves, instead of offering their own advice, they decided to interview couples of varying years of marriage who were in attendance on Sarah & Justin's wedding day. It was a lovely and thoughtful gift for the Bride & Groom, one that they can keep with them always. One of the most beautiful encouragements Sarah & Justin could have received was from Sarah's own Mom. Her advice : Marriage is like the tide. When it's in, it's oh so very good. When it's out, it's out. But persevere together because the tide always comes back in again."

I couldn't imagine a better metaphor in life or in marriage than the coming and going of the tide. Fitting as Sarah & Justin were married at the water's edge at the beautiful Wequassett Golf & Resort Club on Cape Cod. What a great reminder that commitment is not just for the best of times. Whether the tide is in or out, Sarah & Justin can walk through life together knowing that their commitment to each other will stand the test of time, when the tide is high or until it comes back in again.

Sarah & Justin wanted their guests to experience all the beauty of the Cape. Surrounded by a warm summer breeze and the beautifully manicured grounds of the Wequassett Resort, Sarah & Justin's guests were treated to stunning ocean views and the very best Cape Cod has to offer. Sarah meticulously chose each detail to create a timeless and elegant feel to the day, reflecting who Sarah & Justin are together. In short, it was breathtaking.

Sarah & Justin, thank you for allowing us to be a part of something so incredible. To give us a glimpse into your relationship and allowing us to capture your love on camera. It was a joy to be there to celebrate your union with your friends and family and I hope your images transport you back to this day for many years to come!!

We started the day at the home of Sarah's parents, a beautiful and historic house surrounded by beautiful gardens!

Sarah carried a delicate handkerchief with her new initals embroidered into the design.

Her stunning structured Le Spose Di Gio from Mark Ingram Atelier was perfection.

The gardens at Sarah's home were the perfect mix of Cape Cod charm.

Over at Wequassett, Justin got ready for the day with his Groomsmen in their suite overlooking the bay.

The men wore tailored suits with bow ties, a classic approach.

Sarah & Justin decided to have a First Look and I'm SO glad they did. It was an incredibly emotional moment for the two.

The long sitting porch at the Wequassett provided just the right amount of charm (and shade!) for the Bride & Groom portraits.

Sarah I just couldn't get enough of your Bridal Look! How amazing is her structured Le Spose Di Gio gown?!

Sarah is the type of person who makes friends for life, so fittingly she was surrounded by special woman who have been by her side through it all.

Flower by Fancy created a stunning pallete of pinks and creams for Sarah's bridesmaids.

The Groom and his Groomsmen cleaned up pretty well too ;)!

The warm breeze, the sunshine and the lush lawn of Wequassett all made for the perfect backdrop for Sarah & Justin's ceremony.

This moment between Sarah's parents with Sarah & Justin was over in the briefest of seconds, but stands to be my favorite from the whole day.

The couple's vows were touching, personal and filled with love.

After the ceremony Sarah & Justin walked the lawn at Wequasset for a few "We're MARRIED" portraits together.

There was a lot of PINK at this wedding...I didn't mind.

The toasts to Sarah & Justin we're filled with personal jokes, stories and admiration for this special couple.

Following toasts, dinner and dessert, the amazingly talented Kahootz Band kept the evening's festivities going with LOTS of dancing!!

It's hard to believe that Stephanie and Nick are welcoming their baby into the world in just a few short weeks. It seems like yesterday we were celebrating in Cambridge as these two became Mr. & Mrs. They've grown together over these last few years, acheived sucesses in their educational endeavors, careers and personal life. Now they are getting ready to embark on a new adventure together and I couldn't be more excited for them!!

Stephanie loves coming up to the North Shore to enjoy the beautiful sandy beaches and the quaint New England summer charm. We picked Crane Beach in Ipswich for their maternity session, which offers all the character and beauty of a New England beach setting that Nick & Stephanie love.

Steph and Nick, I'm over the moon excited for you as you expand your family!! I can't wait to hear news of whether Baby is a boy or a girl!! Until then I hope you soak up every moment together as you await baby's arrival. It truly is a precious time in life, enjoy your images!!

Bob & Carly Engaged

An East Boston Engagement Session

Carly & Bob's love story is a Boston love story through and through. They met by chance at a bar one evening while celebrating with friends. Immediately hitting it off, talking and dancing the rest of the evening. Their first date was at the iconic Rino's in East Boston and well the rest is a love story for the books. Today Carly & Bob live, work and love in this beautiful city. Fittingly they chose East Boston for the backdrop of their engagement session, a place that holds a dear spot in their heart and where they live and spend much of their free time. As Carly describes it, "East Boston will always be special to us!"

Bob & Carly, what a delight to take a tour of East Boston with you and to capture who you are in a place that means so much. I adore the way that you love each other...sweet and full of affection. I can't wait to document your epic celebration in August!! Enjoy your images!!

We started their session at Prima e Dopo, right across the street from Rino's and where Bob & Carly frequent to relax and reconnect after long days at work. This corner booth was the best!!

Of course we had to make a stop at Rino's, the location of Bob and Carly's first date. Right before this image was taken, a sweet couple stopped to give some marriage advice from their own 51 years of marriage!

Next we headed to Piers Park, a beautiful spot right on Boston Harbor.

We snuck away to a quite corner of Piers Park and Bob & Carly embraced every moment together.

After a quick oufit change we wandered through more of the neighborhoods in East Boston. I loved this garden and those beautiful roses!

Work it Carly, work it.

The Boston Harbor Shipyard and Marina gave us sweeping views of the skyline and some respit from the hustle and bustle of the park.

Chatham Bars Inn Wedding | Jayme & Cory

As Jayme's maid of honor, best friend and sister delivered her toast during the couple's reception at the Chatham Bars Inn, she recounted all the life Jayme and Cory have shared together leading up to the wedding day. "Was there even a time BEFORE Jayme and Cory," she jokingly asked. It's hard to remember, Cory and Jayme along with their friends and family, fit perfectly together, as if they truly have been together forever. They are best friends, a bond formed during their time together at Boston College. They are an inspiration to those around them of what true love, commitment and respect looks like. Even their priest stopped the ceremony to simply comment that Jayme and Cory are one of the most considerate, kind and loving couples he has had the pleasure of knowing. It's clear that these two are deeply admired and loved.

Jayme and Cory held their wedding festivities in the quaint seaside town of Chatham, a place that has a very special meaning to Jayme's family. They chose the stunning Chatham Bars Inn for their reception in hopes that their guests could truly take in all that the Cape has to offer. And while the day may have started out with a few raindrops it transformed into an afternoon of summer perfection. While a light breeze drifted off of the ocean, Cory and Jayme along with their guests enjoy the beautiful sunny day, basking in the salty sea air and taking in all that this beautiful part of the New England has to offer!! Just wait till you see the day unfold!!

RJ & Meredith are high school sweethearts who met in spanish class over eight years ago. As Meredith describes it, RJ was the class clown who she wanted nothing to do with. But as soon as they started talking flirting, it was all over. They've been inseparable ever since! This past Friday, surrounded by their closest friends and family they committed their life to each other. They chose The Barn at Gibbet Hill in Groton as the backdrop for the wedding, the same town where they met and fell in love.

Happy Anniversary : Hannah & Barrett

Hannah & Barrett first connected with me via my Marriage Monday posts while they were still engaged. We quickly formed a friendship and I was honored to document their wedding celebration last June. I've admired these two since the first time we met. Throughout their engagement, their wedding planning and now life as newlyweds, Barrett and Hannah have shown how deeply committed they are to one another. With their friendship as the foundation to their relationship, they've been able to take on this life together, hand in hand. Their committment to their marriage and each other as individuals is simply beautiful. While they have many years ahead of doing life together, how appropriate it is to celebrate their first year of marriage and all that they have achieved together in these last 12 months. Happy Anniversary Hannah and Barrett!!

D -- Happy anniversary! I simply cannot believe that it has been a year since your wedding!! Has time flown by for you as well?

H&B -- Thank you! We've been reminded of our wedding by the frequent weddings of our friends in the last month. In terms of the passing time, the year has gone quite quickly, probably because we've had tons of transitions this last year! Some of changes have been fun and some have been difficult. That said, last June seems like forever ago!

D -- What has been the best thing that has happened to you as a couple since your wedding last year?

H&B -- We got two cats, Barrett found a great job, and we've found an energetic and wonderful church where we're both growing. It's been a good

D -- Traveled anywhere fun?

H&B -- We honeymooned in Maine, and that was fun--and relaxing, which we needed after the wedding. We've also visited a few places in upstate New York. Right after my grad school semester ended (and before I began my summer internship) we got to visit St. Thomas for a week. It was a like a second honeymoon and we were really glad to have been able to go!

D -- Any tips you can offer newlyweds for their first year of marriage?

H&B -- Talk to each other. Make time for pillow talk before bed so you have a chance to catch up. Life gets busy, so take the time to figure out how the other's day went. Laugh with each other. Go on adventures, even if they are close to home... Find a way to make memories. Forgive each other.

D -- What is your favorite memory from your wedding day?

H -- I think I have two. Walking down the aisle with my dad as he chatted with me (goodness it was such a loooong aisle;)) was a beautiful moment. I was so grateful that he was part of the day. And I also loved the ceremony itself, holding Barrett's hand and sharing the vows that we wrote.

B -- Am I allowed to pick three? ;) I fondly remember both the First Look and Hannah coming down the aisle for the same reason: the wonderful and exhilarating joy of it being the wedding day and that I was marrying the most wonderful woman! I also treasure the dance I had with my mother. It was wonderful to share such a special moment on such a special day with such a special person. It's a memory I'll always cherish.

The City That Has Stollen My Heart

I had been told that we would love the city of Charleston but I was not prepared for just how this city would steal a piece of my heart. But then again, Charleston has a way of doing that...with it's southern charm and inviting personality Charleston is a place that's hard not to love.

From the minute we landed to the very end of our trip Dave and I fell head over heals for the Holy City. Our first part of the trip was spent relaxing on Folly Beach at one of the most amazing B&B's...EVER. If you ever have the chance to stay at Regatta Inn you simply must. Inviting, cozy, relaxing. It was the perfect start to our trip and an incredible introduction to the Charleston area. Our second part of the week was spent at the delightful City Centre. The owners are incredibly friendly, knowledgable and hopsitable and made our stay in Charleston unforgettable.

I have a deep affinity for Charleston. Perhaps it is the romance or the charm or the brightly colored homes. Whatever the reason, I know that I must return to this beautiful city soon!! Our trip to Charleston was purely for vacation but I thoroughly enjoyed bringing along my camera to capture the beauty we discovered. It's exactly as you would expect, filled with pastel colored homes, palmetto trees and spanish moss. What's not to love?!

A Charlestown Navy Yard Engagement Session

Dark clouds swirled in the sky, lighting thundered in the distance and a spatter of rain fell throughout the air. Despite the weather predictions we had collectively decided to take a chance and meet at the Charlestown Navy Yard for Chris & Kara's engagement session. But as the time drew near I became increasingly nervous that it just wasn't going to happen. In fact minutes before they arrived a large dark cloud covered the entire sky...this was it, time to cancel.

But just as I was about to call it off Kara and Chris arrived, jumped out of the car and said "Let's do this!" Inspired by their can do attitude, we jumped right into the session. And I'm SO glad we didn't cancel!! The dark clouds parted, the rain began to stop and it all led to some of the most beautiful golden light I've seen all year!!

Kara and Chris met while Chris helped a friend move years ago, that friend just happened to be Kara's roommate!! It's evident that their friendship provides the foundation for their relationship and you just can't help but notice how much fun these two have together...as a photographer it is a beautiful thing when your subjects share a piece of who they are with you. I loved being able to photograph this beautiful couple, two best friends who cannot wait to build a life together. Their inviting, carefree and loving personalities made this engagement sesion a joy to photograph!!

Kara & Chris, thank you for taking a chance on the weather and being such amazing sports in whatever Mother Nature threw at us!! If this is any indication for what August might hold, I can't wait!! Enjoy your images!!

Lindsey & Tom Engaged

A West Beach & Tuck's Point Engagement Session

Lindsey and Tom both attended the Univeristy of New Hampshire and while they grew up in different parts of Massachusetts, it is here where they fell in love! And because my husband is a Wildcat himself, I know exactly how proud UNH students can be of their alma mater:). Tom would even get Vickery apple cider on campus from my husband's family's orchard. Isn't it grand how small the world can be sometimes?

Lindsey grew up in the quaint seaside town of Manchester by the Sea just a short drive north of Boston. And while the couple now lives near the city, Lindsey and Tom spend much of their spare time time dipping their feet in the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean, relaxing on the beach and enjoying time on the North Shore. In fact they'll be getting married right on the water's edge later this fall in the same seaside town where Lindsey grew up in. It's a place where they feel most comfortable, relaxed and oh so in love...it was the perfect location for their engagement session!!

We started our time together on beautiful West Beach in Beverly, a beautiful private beach tucked away in town. Following we headed to Tuck's Point in Manchester-by-the-Sea, a place with special meaning to Lindsey, who has had all major life moments photographed on the beautiful pier and gazebo.

It was a joy to share in these places that mean so much and to photograph this beautiful couple during such a momentous time in their life!! Congrats Lindsey and Tom, I cannot wait for September!! Enjoy your images!!

Happy Anniversary : Katherine & Brandon

Katherine and Brandon have experienced some big changes since tying the knot last May in Rockport. (You probably remember this adorable wedding by the sea:)). But despite moving, changes in career, schooling, Brandon and Katherine have found their footing in marriage. Their relationship is what grounds them and gives them the strength and courage to take risks and live adventurously! These two bring out the best in each other and push each other in the direction of their dreams. What a beautiful partnership! They've been up to a lot this past year, so I'm throwing it over to them to share a little bit more about their first year of marriage. Happy Anniversary!!

D -- Happy anniversary! I simply cannot believe that it has been a year since your wedding!! Has time flown by for you as well?

K&B -- Yes! Now that our anniversary has come and gone, we cannot believe it has already been a year! Life is very different now compared to last year and it has been a wonderful year. From graduating college, getting married and moving to Michigan (all in the month of May 2014) we are thankful for a less hectic month of May this year :)

D -- What is your favorite memory from your wedding day?

K&B -- At the end of the reception, all of our guests had lined the exit downstairs and we were waiting upstairs for our exit. All of a sudden of DJ started to play our first dance song ("Tethered" by Sleeping At Last) and we were able to enjoy it together as the sun set over the ocean. It was a beautiful end to our wedding day and such a special time together.!

D -- What has been the best thing that has happened to you as a couple since your wedding last year?

K&B -- Since moving to a new state we have really enjoyed all the new friendships we have formed this past year. We love to host dinner parties and invite new and old friends over for dinner and build relationships with them. Our friends have enriched our lives and has made this past year of big transitions so much easier with them by our sides!

D -- What have you learned about each other over this past year?

K&B -- That the everyday activities of life can be the most fun! Whether it's our weekly grocery shopping, learning to cook lots of different recipes together, or driving in the car just talking, we have learned to simply enjoy the time we have to be with each other. Brandon and I were friends for a couple years before we started dating so it is such a blessing now to be married to one's best friend. Not every day is exciting but each day I get to do life with my best friend and I'm so thankful for that!

D -- Traveled anywhere fun?

K&B -- Our honeymoon to British Colombia was fantastic! It is a beautiful place and we loved traveling from Victoria on the coast to Whistler in the mountains. It's been a busy year since we both started new jobs (and I just changed jobs too!) so we love any time we can visit family or friends out of state. It's always a treat to visit our family near Boston!

D -- Any tips you can offer newlyweds for their first year of marriage?

K&B -- A friend shared this advice when we were dating, but it has held true through each phase of our relationship: Hold hands when you argue. It sounds kind of silly but it is a simple reminder that we are on the same team no matter what comes our way!
