Capturing Life

Weddings make up my life. They are what my business circles around and they are what I love photograph!! But that doesn't mean it's the ONLY thing that I shoot! Throughout the year I photograph numerous portrait sessions, what I call Life Captured sessions. These are casual on location sessions with the goal to capture your life as it happens. Whether you're hanging out together as a family at the beach or prepping for a newborn at home, I want to photography the essence of your family! 

I love documenting families of all shapes and sizes from the newly married couple at home, to the growing pack of furry animal kids, to beautiful mother to be, to the family of 20, these sessions are for anyone! I know I'll be scheduling my own portrait session for my growing family later this year! If there is anything that I have learned over this past year, it's that life moves SO fast. Photographs are the only thing that can stop time and I want to have those fleeting memories with my family captured forever.

So why all the talk about portrait sessions? Well for the winter and spring months I am opening up a limited amount of Life Captured Sessions. A Boston Inspired Maternity Session

Remember these two?! I had the pleasure of first working with Brian and Lisa last year to photograph their engagement and wedding last summer. And I can tell you that everyone who worked with this amazing couple walked away from their wedding HONORED to have been a part of their day! I'm so happy to call these two clients and friends.  

Flash forward to this fall and I suddenly found myself being asked by Lisa to photograph their maternity session!! I was THRILLED to learn that Brian and Lisa are expecting, they will certainly make the best parents and one adorable little baby. They are waiting to find out the baby's gender until the baby arrives so I spent much of the day guessing at what they might have!! 

I love being a part of the life journey that my client's experience. I love developing relationships and friendships with my clients. It's amazing how a camera can open up doors you never thought possible!

Meanwhile I'm just gonna sit here and eat bon bons...We started the together staying warm at Brian and Lisa's apartment for a cute and casual vibe.Brian has been reading his favorite childhood stories to the baby, making the baby kick like crazy.... An Orchard Inspired Portrait Session

I know, I know, I've probably said it a million times, I don't do family portraits. And yet the last few recent posts have been, what else, family portraits!! But how I can I resist such amazing families like my dear friends the Coles? And when Aubrey asked me to photograph a 1st Birthday session for her adorable little Max, could I really say no to someone so cute??!  

You may remember Aubrey from her own portrait session earlier this summer. Aubrey is a good friend and fellow wedding photographer and I was honored to be asked to take her family's portrait! As photographers we get very few opportunities to be in front of the camera! How many of us have family albums filled with images of our families and yet hardly any images with us in them?! I understand just how important these images are to Aubrey. Not only are they of her adorable son and husband, but they include her. It's documentation of their life together at this stage. Something they can look back on when Max is all grown up and marvel at just how far he's come!

Meet The Cole Family

A Coastal Maine Portrait Session

I've known the Cole Family now for almost 10 years... WHAT? How does time fly??! Starting with a family of 11 they have certainly grown over the years as kids have married and had children of their own. Yet despite their growth and distance between them, this family of 20 (and counting) always manages to stay connected, involved in each others lives and filled with love. There's nothing quite like being surrounded by a close clan of 20, it sure is one wild ride! There is something truly special about this family and it makes me incredibly proud to know them and count them as friends.

Judy, who celebrated a birthday this month, was surprised by her children with a family portrait session on York Beach during the family's vacation. Despite the numbers we had an amazing and CALM time together, laughing and celebrating. It will be a rare occasion for this family to be all together again, so I know just how important these images are. A documentation of one big but happy family celebrating life together. Last week during our trip to Chicago we made a quick stop up north to see our dear friends the Schmidts. They live in Milwaukee, a short hop, skip and a jump up Lake Michigan from Chicago. They desperately wanted some family portraits of their growing family (our Godson is almost 3!!) and like any good friend would do I brought my camera along and took some images while we played in a lakeside park. Despite the humidity, the extremely bright sun and some sick kiddos we managed to have fun and get some great images! I love spending time with these four and though I was incredibly sad to say goodbye, we cherished our short day together. Enjoy!

Life Captured : Meet Aubrey

Meet the adorable, the fabulous, the wonderful Aubrey. Aubrey is a local wedding photographer who was in need of portraits for her new website and she asked me a few months back if we could set up a time to head down to Newport, RI. Well, THREE rescheduled shoots later we finally made it down last week. If I was being totally honest, I was a littler nervous. It's intimidating photographing another photographer. But Aubrey immediately put me at ease with a huge hug and smile. We spent the morning gushing about her new baby boy, talking shop and dreaming about the future. I'm so honored to call Aubrey my friend and I can't wait to see what the next few month holds for her and her business. Look out world, this mama is takin' it by storm!

J'Adore : Running Gear

It's May and that means that warm weather is JUST around the corner! Actually it's been pretty warm all winter... we've been spoiled and I've spent many a morning and evening enjoying some amazing runs outside without freezing my butt off!

Yes, I'm a runner. I know, It probably don't look like it at first glance but I really enjoy running! I considered myself a casual runner, as I'm pretty slow, don't run long distances and have NO aspirations to run competitively. But all the same, running has been a part of my life since high school and I love lacing up and hitting the road!

Since we're heading into the warmer months and many of us will start running more, I thought I'd share the things that help me J'Adore running and look good doing it! Because, after all, we all know getting out there and moving is so much easier when you look cute!

1. Runkeeper App. I couldn't live with out the Runkeeper app! I can play my running playlist and get five minute updates on how far I've run, how fast I'm going and what my overall pace is. It's such a great way to stay accountable when out for a run!

2. Victoria Secret Headband. I stumbled on these headbands and fell in love. When you have hair like mine, you need something that will keep the fuzz out of your face!

3. Old Navy Running Capri. I love working out in capris. They give me just the right coverage over my legs and core and are super comfy. Who would have thought Old Navy would make my favorite pair?

4. Brooks Running Shoe. I love these sneakers! For someone who has NO arch, these shoes provide great support and comfort!

5. Nathan Portable Water Bottle. This water bottle is a life saver, even on small runs!

6. Nike Tank Top. I stumbled on the pink version of this tank top at Marshalls. It's SO SO SO soft, stretchy and comfortable.

J'Adore : Cruisin' in Style

Shortly, I'll be sipping on a fruity cocktail while laying out on the beach workin' on my burn! Yup, we're going on our first cruise and I couldn't be more excited! Being the cruise newbies that we are, we have no idea what to expect and I kinda like it that way. Fortunately we are traveling with the cruise experts themselves (Dave's parents) whom I'm sure will show us the ropes when it comes to living on a boat for a week! Of course I relished in the excuse to buy a few new things (I mean, boat shoes are a necessity on a cruise ship, right?;)) And I spent one to many moments day dreaming about 80 degree temps, crystal clear blue water and time with the hubster. Below are my necessities for our trip. Take a few moments to day dream with me won't you?... Feeling that warm breeze and soft sand yet?!:)

1. Royal Caribbean, do good by us!

2. I swear by Neutrogena's Sheer spray on sunscreen. Light and not greasy, but it works great!

3. I LOVE this dress from J.Crew!

4. Yep, we got a wine card. We're going to be on vacation, it's allowed ok!

5. Found this beach hat at the J.Crew outlet for a steal!

6. Gonna get our snorkel on!

7. I adore this tote bag we found at L.L. Bean (We have it in Berry). It's big, has lots of pockets and a zipper!

8. My all time favorite shoes, my Sperrys!

9. Snagged this Ralph Lauren bathing suit in black at Marshalls. $25 bucks. What what!

10. I'm coming!!!

11. Yep. Exactly.

Young Life

Last month my friend Sarah came to me and asked if I would be willing to photograph the 5 year celebration of Younglife in Greater Boston. I jumped at the chance to do some volunteer work and shoot an event outside of my norm! I hadn't seen Sarah in a while so it was fun to see her smiling face and hear about all the things she's been up to! I remember when Sarah first began building Younglife in the Boston area several years ago and last night was a milestone in years of hard work. It was so fun to hear how much Younglife has grown and how all of Sarah's dreaming and planning has paid off. They have a lot of building yet to do, but it was exciting to hear how they are planning to grow. Thanks so much for asking me to be a part of the night Sarah, it was a lot of fun! Enjoy!

J'Adore : The Birthday Edition!

I have a little secret... Today is my birthday!! Right now we are traveling home from WPPI, one of the world's largest photographer conventions, held in Las Vegas. No doubt it's been a week of learning, dreaming and of course EATING. I'm sure I'll have lots to share with you about our trip when I return to the blog next week! But, today, I couldn't help dedicating a J'Adore post to my ultimate birthday wish list.

Life Captured : Meet the Wiederholtz Family

Last month Jenni contacted me to see if it would be possible to squeeze in a family session while I was up in North Conway photographing the wedding of Abby & Devin. They are close friends with the couple and were in town visiting for the weekend event. Of course I happily agreed and we had the most lovely of days for their session. Not a cloud was in the sky and while it was cold, it was a rather seasonably warm day up in the mountains! Add one of the happiest babies, ever and you have the recipe for one amazing family session!

This family has been through a lot this past year but on that Sunday it was the furthest thing from their mind. They wrapped their around their giggling daughter and stole knowing glances at each other. Jenni and Erik were happy to be together and happy for their healthy and unbelievably happy baby. All the cares of the past year slipped away as they spent the morning huddled together, stealing kisses from their daughter.

Jenni, Erik and Tove, can we do this again?! I had so much fun with you three and hope you enjoy your images as much as I enjoyed taking them! Here's to many more years of a happy, bubbly, little girl and a family full of love!

We started the morning at North Conway lookout of Mount Washington. We had a perfectly CLEAR day with a full view of the mountain, you could even see the antennas at the observatory. For those of you familiar with the area, you'll know just how rare it is to have a view of Mount Washington without any cloud cover! It was beautiful!

After the lookout we headed into downtown North Conway and made at stop at the railroad station.

Our last stop was a covered bridge on the outskirts of town. The light was just wonderful!

Of course I had to get Jenni and Erik on their own too! (Don't worry, Tove was supervised :-P)

J'Adore: Winter Warmer

As I sit to write this post my hands are freezing, I'm dressed in three layers and I'm wrapped in my fluffiest blanket. (they really should make gloves for typing ;))  As much as I have wished away the cold temperatures and snow, winter is officially here. Cue whiney voice. But instead of focusing on how much I hate this time of year I thought I'd think about all the things that help me make it through. Warm hats, fleece lined blankets, cute scarfs, puppies who cuddle:)  So I give to you my J'Adore Winter Warmer. A collection of items that keep me toasty this time of year plus some items on my winter warmer wishlist. What do you use to keep you warm this time of year? Anything I should be keeping my eye out for? I'll take any advice you've got:)! I hope this list makes you feel all warm and toasty! Here's to making it through the winter, in style:)!

5. I received a whole tin of Starbucks Hot Cocoa for Christmas and I'm surprised I haven't gone through it all yet!

6. This hat from EMS is the only one that covers my giant head of curly red hair and still reaches all the way around my ears:)! I have it in cranberry.

7. I LOVE my riding boots from L.L. Bean! They've taken a while to break in but they are pretty much amazing:)

8. My friend Amy purchased this sweater from Banana Republic and told me I needed to get one too. Who am I to argue with that? It's so warm and comfy!

9. I'm not one for UGGs, but these slippers look like they were made to warm my feet. Oooooh I can feel it now!

10. This robe from Pottery Barn looks divine and comfy and warm and plush and oooooh I want one!

Life Captured: Meet The Correa Family!

Saturday was ONE. COLD. DAY. It was frigid. And yes I know it's January. And yes I know I live in Boston. But I still complained because if it were up to me I'd tell the snow and cold to stay away forever and it would stay a balmy 75 degrees here all year around. Unfortunately I can't control the weather so I bundled myself up to meet the Correa family in Boston as they braved the cold for a family session downtown! You probably remember Monica from her engagement session this past December. Shortly afterwards she contacted me about possibly working together to surprise her family with portraits! When I suggested January 14th as our date (not sure what I was thinking!) she didn't hesitate and we started to plan. Needless to say her family WAS surprised and they braved the cold with smiles on their faces and lots of giggling to go around! I had so much fun with this family and am so grateful for their amazing attitudes and warmth towards me despite the bitter cold! (Me also thinking that Monica's sister in law was her actual sister and posing her with Monica's mom and dad proved to the highlight of the day and sent rounds of laughter my way:)) Everyone meet the Correa family! Happy, joyful people who don't mind an afternoon of cold if it means they can spend it together! Enjoy!

J'Adore: That Lovin' Feeeeeling

There was NOTHING on tv last night. And I mean nothing (two irish ladies in puffy dresses singing Celtic folk songs anyone?). We don't have cable so our tv watching is relegated to reruns and baaaad tv. And last night I was desperate for something to watch.  For a moment I did considered suffering through those two ladies in their puffy dresses. That was before I stumbled upon one of my favorite movies, TOP GUN!

Yes this movie is all cheese. And I love every minute of it. Raging electric guitar, 80's wash jeans, frizzy hair and awesome lines like "I feel the need, the need for speed!" It's what great movies are made of;)  Even my nickname is Top Gun related. Goosie, aka Goose, given to my by my best friend, because after all I am her wingman, er woman.

Life Captured: Meet The Schmidts

Remember that time when we went to Chicago? We'll I'm finally getting the chance to blog some of it! Part of the reason for our trip was to visist my aunt and uncle. The second was to see our dear friends, TJ and Tricia, who you get to meet today! I feel like The Schmidts have become an honorary family on the Deborah Zoe Photo blog. I mean they've been featured on here over three times! First there was when Tricia was pregnant with their first baby Mason. Then of course Mason had to be featured in all his adorable newborn-ness which you can see here and here. And now their second precious baby, Julia, has her very own blog post (which she is graciously sharing with her brother;)). I love these four, so, so, SO, much and being able to send a few days with them at their new home made my heart incredibly happy. While I still wish they lived in Boston, being able to see them becoming settled and happy in their new life in Wisconsin makes me joyful:) Thanks goodness for things like Skype, Facebook and texting. Ya know, for those times when we just need to talk while shopping at Target. (And Tricia, I'm still waiting on my 4:30am wakeup call from Mason;)) So everyone, meet one of my favorite families, The Schmidts:)!

J'Adore: All Things Christmas

With only one day left in November the year is racing towards the end. And that means only one thing: It's time for Christmas!! Oh how I love this time of year! The red and green, the delicious food, the decorations, the holiday cheer! While I love everything Christmas related, there are few certain things that I look forward to most during the Holiday season. Here is a short list of the things that I J'Adore at Christmas!

1. White Christmas --  This is a holiday tradition for me, I have to watch this movie at least once in the month of December. Growing up with a mom who loved musicals I was always surrounded by singing and dancing. This movie encompasses everything that I love: Singing, dancing and Christmas. Yes, please!

2. Williams-Sonoma Peppermint Bark -- There is just something so special and delicious about mixing peppermint and chocolate together. YUM!

3. A Very She & Him Christmas -- Who doesn't love Zooey!? Combine some old Christmas tunes with her deep and folk-sy voice and it's a perfect holiday combo.

4. Skinny Peppermint Mocha -- First there was the skinny peppermint mocha, then I discovered short cups at Starbucks! Perfect for those moments when your craving just a taste of this amazing Holiday treat!

5. Elf - "You stink, you smell like beef and cheese!" Will Ferrell is arguably his best in this movie about an man, er, elf, trying to find his Father. Oh and it stars Zooey Deschanel, awesomesauce.

6. Yankee Candle - Who doesn't love candles? Especially ones that smell like Christmas! Mhmm, cinnamon and sugar:)

7. Loft Party Dress - I love a good party dress and this one from the Loft does not disappoint!

8. Crate and Barrel appetizer plates - The hostess in me is obsessed will all things party related, so when I saw these adorable holiday appetizer plates I just about fell in love. With plates.

Life Captured: Meet The Swartz Family!

Last Friday I got to spend the morning with this adorable family! Heather wanted to have some updated family photos especially of her little Ben who is growing up so fast! Heather is a photographer herself and while she loves taking photos of the little bean, she wanted to be in some of the photos too! We walked around their neighborhood with their dog Tipper and enjoyed a crisp fall day in the city. Steve even busted out an impromptu Happy Birthday song for his lovely wife:) Make sure you check out the little dudes outfit too:) Plaid shirt and green puffer vest? Adorable! Enjoy!
