Brooklyn Maternity Session in the Heart of Cobble Hill

This past weekend the Hubs and I jumped in the car and headed down to Brooklyn to visit with our dear friends who are expecting their second baby later this summer. It was a bright and beautiful weekend and Brooklyn felt alive with people out and about enjoying the parks and gorgeous weather. Dave and I revel in any opportunity to visit Courtney & Dave in New York and I was honored to be asked to photograph such a special time in their lives.

Courtney chose Cobble Hill, a charming area of Brooklyn filled with leafy green trees, brownstones and families milling about. We managed to sneak away from the crowds and found the perfect side street for their session. Every time we have the opportunity to visit Brooklyn I'm always struck but how small this big borough feels. Filled with neighborhood charm, families, coffee shops, people sitting on this stoops, kids riding bikes, it's know wonder why these two just love it so!

Boston Public Garden Engagement Session

I just love these two brave souls who got up before the sun for their early morning engagement session in the Public Gardens. Living in the Boston area they wanted their engagement session to be a reflection of quintessential Boston. But anyone who knows Boston knows that this part of town is filled with tourists and locals alike later into the day. So how do you go about making the Public Gardens look empty? Begin your session at 6am ;).

I love Erica & Mark's go with the flow attitude -- they are a confident couple who are comfortable in their own skin and have a deep connection to each other. Best friends. What a joy to photograph!!

Later this year they will be tying the knot in a quintessential Bostonian wedding at the Fairmont Copley Plaza (sensing a theme here?) I cannot wait to photograph this sweet couple again in a place that is near and dear to their hearts!!

Then as the second part of the trip, we BOTH get to experience Scotland for the first time!! We both share Scottish heritage so this trip will be especially meaningful for us plus we cannot wait to experience the beauty of the Highlands.

While traveling in the UK next month and I would LOOOVE to shoot an Anniversary Session -- if you're celebrating an anniversary or it's a while since you've been in front of the camera together, I'd LOVE to hear from you!! An Engagement Session in Boston's North End

I couldn't have been more excited to receive an email from Matt & Erika following their recent engagement this past spring. I've known Matt now for several years having had the opportunity to photograph his sister's wedding in 2012 and his brother's wedding last fall. Being able to be a part of the Tice family's life events has been a highlight as a photographer and so I was delighted to be asked by Erika & Matt to photograph their engagement!!

Matt & Erika picked the North End, where they live, as the backdrop for their engagement session. I arrived to their adorable apartment where they relaxed with champagne and cannolis, a North End staple. After enjoying some sweets, we meandered through the North End's maze of streets visiting some of Matt & Erika's favorite spots in this quaint and famous Boston neighborhood. They even managed to gobble down some slices of gooey pizza on a side alley street. If that doesn't scream North End I don't know what does!!

A Wedding In The Heart of Boston's Theatre District

Grace & Sam met while studying at MIT -- they are an incredibly smart couple. This was made clearly evident during their reception as their Best Man and Matron of Honor shared countless stories of how Grace & Sam have used their intelligence to serve others. I think that's what I love most about these two. Both very smart but also incredibly generous. Sam and Grace spend much of their free time teaching, encouraging and lifting others up -- leading by example and using their knowledge to help others.

Lovers of board games and bubble tea they chose to fill their wedding day with details that reflected their unique personalities and interests as a couple. Friends and family gathered from Boston and across the globe to celebrate with them -- the church and reception were packed with loved ones. Grace and Sam walked down the aisle to raucous cheers and HOORAYS, you could feel how loved this sweet couple is.

A Family Session at Duxbury Beach

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting Kate & James at Duxbury Beach, a place where they spend lots of time together as a family. They are lucky to live close by enough for impromtu trips after work or weekend days spent with toes in the sand. Not only did it make for a beautiful setting but it was a place they feel deeply connected too.

With the sun beginning to rise on a June morning I met with Kate, James their their five little ones for a casual and relaxed family session on the beach. I wanted their session to feel comfortable, approachable and reflect how much love this family shares together. If there was one word I walked away with from this session, it would be love. An abundance of love.

Product Highlight | Signature Album

Angelica and Matthew's wedding at the Fairmont Copley Plaza last fall was easily one of my favorite weddings to date. Both hailing from different parts of the country, their Boston wedding was a destination celebration of sorts. Family and loved ones flew in from around the country, and world, to celebrate with them!! Boston shined throughout the wedding day from their downtown ceremony to the Duck Boats they hired to take guests around the city.

Angelica & Matthew chose the Signature Album, our most popular album, for their first family heirloom. Beautifully bound in leather, their album was thoughtfully designed to showcase their elegant Boston wedding in the heart of the city. The black leather cover was the perfect touch!!

At Home Newborn and Family Session in Newbury

I've known Jessie and Will since high school, high school sweet hearts -- the couple everyone loved to love. Jessie was fiery and extroverted, Will, a quiet and calming force. Together they were the perfect pair and it was beautiful to watch as their love grew and matured through high school and college, engagement and marriage.

Soon their love multiplied -- First came Audrey, then Oliver then Ellis and now sweet Evelyn. What an honor it has been to bare witness to Will and Jessie's love story, from high school sweethearts to wonderful and joy filled parents.

Thank you Jessie and Will for asking me to document such a special time in your life as you welcomed your newest addition to the family. I hope these images bring you much joy and serve as a reminder of the beautiful love you share together as a family!

A Quaint New England Wedding at the Martha Mary Chapel

Kenny and Melissa have been together since high school and so their wedding had become something very special to them. It marked the end of one chapter of their relationship but opened the doors to something new and exciting. One of my favorite moments of the day was as the doors to the Martha Mary Chapel opened and Melissa appeared. Kenny's eyes filled with tears, overcome with this moment and all that it meant for them. Years together already but a lifetime of adventures ahead.

Travelogue : Nantucket

It has been a dream of mine to visit Nantucket Island. I've lived in Massachusetts my whole life and yet had never visited this coastal oasis. When our good friends shared they would visit the East Coast in May we decided now would be the perfect time to make the trek to Nantucket!

I wasn't prepared for just how perfect Nantucket would be. Grey shuttered houses, creeping rose vines, white picket fences. It was almost more than my nautical New England loving heart could handle. If you are a fan of history, timeless style and that welcoming charm New England is famous for, then Nantucket needs to be at the top of your travel list.

A Family Session on Boston's North Shore

I've known Natalie for almost three years... we first met when I was pregnant with my son after being introduced by friend and fellow photographer Kendra. All I could think in our first meeting was, "She's going to think I'm so unprofessional -- I'm SO pregnant!" Little did I know that Natalie was secretly pregnant herself and that meeting would be the beginning of a dear friendship between two Boston area wedding creatives

A South Boston Engagement Session

We started Phoebe & Kevin's session in their beautiful home followed by a walk through their neighborhood. Conversations on the front stoop, families at the playground, pups walking with their owners, it hardly felt like you were in the middle of the city. It's a small oasis in a bustling part of town, a quaint and inviting place -- it's clear why Phoebe & Kevin love it so.

An Engagement Session at MIT, Cambridge

Grace & Sam are both graduate students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. They met in school and campus has become an incredibly important and sentimental place in their relationship. Of course it had to become a part of their engagement session so we spent an afternoon together wandering the city campus and exploring it's historic buildings. In fact, MIT had just celebrated their 100th anniversary of their Cambridge campus before the session - historic indeed!

Grace is an aero student (which I love as my own hubby Dave graduated from the MIT aero program) and Sam is a mathematician. Together these two make one incredibly smart couple! But beyond their skill in academics Grace and Sam are kind and generous, a couple who is dearly loved by their friends. As we walked the MIT campus for their engagement session, Grace and Sam were stopped numerous times with congratulatory hugs and excitement!!

Grace and Sam are doing things a little differently than most couples. While their engagement will have only been a few months when they tie the knot this June, it's clear that Grace and Sam are meant to be. From the way that Sam cares for Grace to the way Grace melts into Sam's arm -- Sam and Grace are the real deal.

Thank you Grace and Sam for showing me around campus, enjoy your images!!

A Fireman and A Cupcake

This past weekend we celebrated Jonathan's third birthday with a BBQ at our home. It was an especially beautiful spring day (are rare treat this year with our cold and rainy weather!) with lots of food and outdoor fun. Dave has a large extended family, many who make the journey to our house and ever year our yard is filled with kiddos, bubbles and lawn chairs. It makes my heart really full.

This year we celebrated with firetrucks, one of Jonathan's favorite things. As I watched him try to blow out his birthday candle in his new fire chief jacket, I was reminded of just how fast time goes. Wasn't it just yesterday that we were bringing him home from the hospital? I knew that this day would come quickly but it's a whole different thing when it actually does.

This week I found myself in conversation with a fellow entrepreneur and new Mom. We chatted about the struggles of balancing work and home life and what it looks like to run a business while also growing your family. I'm three years into that balance and have found it to be one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences. It's a balance that needs to be filled with grace, patience and compromise.

The things that I wanted three years ago for my business have radically shifted all because of this cute fireman. It's hard to describe what it looks like to have a business that you are incredibly passionate about, one that you have poured your heart and soul into, while also raising a child who has stolen that same heart, become your everything. It truly is an art of balance.

One of my favorite entrepreneurs and fellow Mom is Joanna Gaines. I fell in love with her driven spirit and love her family years ago when I discovered a little known show at the time called Fixer Upper. It's been amazing to watch as she and her husband Chip have continued to radically grow their business, positively influence their community all while keeping their family at the forefront. She wrote a blog post several years ago that has always stuck with me.

"For those of you who are working moms and struggle to find the balance between loving your job and loving your kids, I feel your pain. We have to let go of the guilt and rather than feel burdened about missing out, we need to celebrate the fact that we are doing what we were made to do." - Joanna Gaines

You can read the full post here, I guarantee that it will encourage your heart. If you're a new Mom, Mom for several years or a business owner who dreams of expanding her family some day, take heart. I believe that there is room for both. With a lot of patience, grace and compromise. Your focus will shift, your priorities will change but you will still chase after your dreams and raise beautiful babies. It's hard and it can be scary but that doesn't mean it isn't worth the sacrifice and effort it takes to raise children and build a business that matters.

Copper Inspiration Shoot at Warehouse XI

Collaborating is something I believe strongly in so when my good friend and fellow photographer Shannon approached me about creating an inspiration shoot together this past winter, I jumped at the chance. We were incredibly lucky and honored to work with a team of incredible creatives who helped bring the vision of a copper inspired wedding to life -- I continue to be in awe of the magic we were able to create together!!

Warehouse XI, voted best new venue by Venue Report, was our gracious host. The space was a blank canvas and allowed the color palette of reds and copper to pop!! It was important that the details felt-fashion forward and represented our concept of industrial romance. Beach Plum Florals did an amazing job of pulling together flowers that felt fresh and modern but were soft and ethereal as well. Roberta of the Romanticist Studios was our stylist and created a look that balanced industrial, modern and romance perfectly.

For our stationary Roberta collaborated with Kate of Yennygrams to create a beautiful copper mounted paper suite!! Even our escort cards were hand scripted copper plates. Those little touches were what made this collaboration perfection.

Be Our Guest provided table settings and even hand sewed a tulle skirt for our table. (I mean we had a rock star team of creatives!!) They paired a hard metal table top with a delicate place setting and copper accented cutlery. The result was a beautiful mix of metals and textures, a perfect compliment to our venue location and the soft, romantic feel of the florals.

Flair Boston provided a glorious lace corseted ARIA wedding down with an incredible tulle skirt. It paired beautifully with our reception table (noticing a theme here?!) and my favorite dream team of beauty, Amanda McCarthy Beauty & Hair That Moves ensured that our models, Rhonda & Johnny, looked fabulous as well!! These talented creatives brought the vision of Industrial Romance to life and I was honored to work alongside Shannon to photograph it all!!

An Engagement Session in Boston's North End

Kate is a city girl through and through and I just love that about her, a girl after my own heart!! When chatting about where she and Don would like to have their engagement session, it was no question : Boston would be it!! Kate lives in the heart of downtown -- complete with sweeping views of Boston Harbor and State House, a city girl's dream. Don and Kate have a deep love for this city and this December will say their vows in the shadow of Boston's skyline.

One of Don and Kate's favorite date night activities is walking from her apartment downtown to the charming neighborhood of the North End for a slice of pizza or a cannoli. (That sounds like a perfect date night to me!) For their engagement session we did exactly that, stopping along the way to take in the city sights and enjoy a treat.

The North End is one of my favorite places in Boston. I love the history -- one of the few remaining cobble stone streets is here -- and the charm of the numerous restaurants and bakeries that fill this neighborhood. I was pleased as punch to sneak away from the crowds and introduce Don & Kate to my fave little bakery, Bova's, tucked away off of Hanover!!

Don and Kate are sweethearts, the kind of couple who welcomes you in and makes you feel like an old friend. Kate's smile can light up a room and Don is always quick to make sure that Kate feels loved, with that famous Kate smile on her face. (Just see below!) I can't wait for their wedding later this year and I am so excited to introduce them to you today!! Enjoy their sweet North End Engagement Session!!
